How’s your mood?

Is it just me or does this time of year change everyones mood? I started to do some reads on a clients VO project and he commented that my previous reads lacked the professionalism that he expected from a major market voice over talent!. Huh?.. I have never, ever sent audio to a client that wasn’t the highest caliber content, delivery or quality that I can produce.

It got me wondering, perhaps he’s not doing so well in this fantastic Renaissance that we’re experiencing after the election of our new President. In my neighborhood gas was 1.37 a gallon. Seriously I’m not kidding, I think it’s been at least 3 years since it was that low. But that’s not my point. The quality of your delivery and your actibility of the script is in direct proportion to how much money you lost in the stockmarket or your 401K. I went back and listened to the previous reads I had sent this client and he was right. My heart and soul was not in it. I didn’t feel the copy, didn’t get the motivation behind the product. I felt bad about spouting off at him (in an indirect sort of way).

So what’s the lesson here? Always listen back to your reads at least 3 times and if you can have someone other than yourself critique the read before you send it to them do so. If they can hear something thats just not right so can Joe the Plumber. You will not only garner the respect of your peers, you’ll have more respect for yourself as a voice actor
